Zachary Jace LeBlanc

Army Special Forces - 10 + years

West Virginia University School Of Medicine - Allopathic Doctorate degree (MD)

Zachary is a second-year medical student at West Virginia University School of Medicine, following more than a decade of service as a U.S. Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D). His military career included multiple tours across the Levant and Sahel regions, culminating in his final deployment to Lebanon during the 2020 Beirut blast. Years of caring for teammates in demanding environments inspired his transition from battlefield medicine to the study of clinical medicine.

Since leaving the military in 2023, Zachary and his wife have navigated the challenges of relocating, managing medical school expenses, and building a new life in Morgantown, West Virginia. Applying for the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation Scholarship, he hopes to ease the financial strain and continue his mission of service—now through healing rather than combat. Like Glen, he is committed to living with purpose, resilience, and a lifelong dedication to helping others.
