2021 GDMF MEMORIAL ROAD RACE

The town of Winchester has approved our 9th annual Road Race in person. For the 2nd year in a row, we will bring the race virtually to all of our wonderful supporters across the US

and worldwide. We hope to have as many folks back on the race course as possible AND broadcast our opening cermony and scholar testimonials to our virtual runners. Everyone is encouraged to join us

for a fun filled patriotic event!

The GDMF 5K Road Race is one of our key fundraising events. We need YOU to help us continue our mission to provide scholarship funding to Special Operation soldiers and their families.

RACE PRICING:

o On-Line: $40 for Adults 5/10K | $20 For Kids under 18

o Race Weekend: $50 for Adults $20 for Kids under 18

o Virtual Race via the Charge Running App: $40

RUCK DIVISION: All participants will receive a GDMF Rucker Patch

RACE WEEKEND:

o 9/25 BIB PICKUP, 12pm to 2pm – Winchester library, large meeting room
Runners strongly encouraged to pick up bibs early to avoid day of lines!

o 9/26 RACE DAY BIB PICKUP, 9:30am to 11am - The Jenks Center Parking Lot, 109 Skillings Rd

VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE:

We are partnering once again with Charge Running to provide an

awesome experience via their app and connect with all of our virtual participants LIVE on race day.

Cannot run live? Sign up and run with us "on demand" and

you can listen to the race day experience anytime and anywhere!

We are a part of the TCS NYC Marathon's charity program. We are back this year with 5 charity bibs!

We had a very successful outing in 2019 at the TCS NYC Marathon with 4 runners raising more than $24,000!

2021 APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

We have purchased 5 charity spots for the 2021 TCS NYC marathon in November. Application and details pending.

Our goal is to hit $30,000 to provide scholarships to Special Operations soldiers, like Glen. Glen was a former Navy SEAL, killed in Benghazi, Libya when our American Consulate was attacked by terrorists. We established the Foundation to honor Glen, his love for life and dedication to this country.

We need YOU in November 2021! We are looking for marathon runners looking to support our cause. Help us raise funds to provide current and former Special Ops soldiers an opportunity to transition to civilian life. It is also a fantastic way to say thank you to our “GDMF Scholars” for their service.

THE GOAL:

To raise $30,000 for the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation and in true Glen fashion, bring together great people for a good time!

APPLICATION

Please fill our the application form and submit your application fee. We ask that all applications be completed by July 15th or until all spots are filled. Runners are required to raise a minimum of $5,000.

All entry fees and accommodations must be paid for by the participants. Hotel rooms will be reserved for our out of town runners, however expenses must be paid by the participant.

Falmouth Road Race

We are thrilled to join the Falmouth Nonprofit for Numbers program! This inaugural running of the prestigious Falmouth Road Race will be a bit different this year - it will be VIRTUAL!

Glen spent many summers visiting friends on the cape and ran the Falmouth Road Race many times. The race always culminated in Falmouth Heights with a BBQ at longtime Winchester friend, Phil Svahn's family abode.

This year, Phil will be championing our team to raise much needed funds for our Scholarship Program. Covid-19 has impacted so many and it is very difficult to ask for support during these times. But the reality is we have 14 returning scholars to support this fall. We also want to continue to award funding to new candidates. The Boston Marathon, one of our key annual fundraisers has been cancelled and our annual road race might go virtual as well. Last year we received 38 applications for our Scholarship program and we were only able to award 16 new scholarships in a good year.

Your dollars will go right to work in helping our Special Ops soldiers transition to new careers post military. Our scholars are forever grateful for the support. To see our latest class of talented scholars, please see our website. They are an impressive bunch!
